SELF PORTRAIT THURSDAY!
11.26.09
This is some vintage Craig (and technically not even a self portrait).
HOWEVER, this is SO APPROPRIATE because it's me at the age of seven or eight on Thanksgiving at my aunt's house.
And I'm hugging her pet turkey!
Who the hell has a pet turkey?
My aunt had a female one, too, but they're smaller.
She also had TONS of other birds at her ranch house including peacocks, chickens, macaws, parrots, guineafowls, etc.
I hope you all have a good Thanksgiving.
I'm spending this holiday with Ben J.'s family in D.C., where they have two lovely Boston Terriers. =)
(While in the area, we'll also be visiting the Baltimore Aquarium and the textile museum in D.C.)
Eat up!
SELF PORTRAIT THURSDAY!

But when I found myself getting v. stressed out by my project, I realized I needed a break.
This was the perfect distraction.
I love sitting out in the hallway of my studio because I like to look out at the birds and the water and such.
For at least five minutes or so.

Yes, finally back.
But all I do is work now, so I don't really have time to make myself look presentable.
This explains why I look so furry and frumpy. I probably haven't shaved in a month.
(My facial hair grows slowly.)
I don't mean to be a hater, but hand knitting is for schmucks.
No, that's not true. I was just hand knitting last night. And I often hand knit.
(But when I'm away from my machine, I long for it.)
Seriously, though...
The satisfaction and ideas come pouring out on a machine.

Currently watching lots of episodes of Jem and the Holograms. And a lot of documentaries about weapons of mass destruction, WWII, and the Holocaust.
Reading zombie fiction (short stories) on the subway and bus.
Knitting a hybrid sweater for Janet L.
Using size 10.5 needles makes the work go by so much quicker. (Most of my garments are made using size 6 needles.)
Dionne Warwick and Steely Dan and Jem songs play in my head.
I'm excited about going home to Texas, but when I get back on the 30th, Osa, the little chihuahua that lives with us, won't be there since her owner is moving out. I feel like crying just saying that since I've grown so attached to that little dog. I've never been this attached to a dog before, especially a little diva that growls and bares her teeth at me so often.
I love coming home to a dog that's excited to see me and tell me about her day. And I love waking up and seeing her big, watery eyes under the covers. And having her jump on my chest and licking me all over the face, telling me it's time to wake up.
I'm going to miss that so much. SO MUCH.
=(
Be strong, Craig.

I pretty much only did computer stuff at the studio today. I'll save all manual labor (and going to the post office) for tomorrow.
Here I'm reading things on the internet.
Listening to Ben drill.
Knitting Jessica G.'s hood.
Dragging.
The cable pattern really isn't something I can look away from and not pay attention to.
I'm realizing that the hard way.
All is going well, though.

Today I made myself a t-shirt with a huge cowl that can also be worn as a hood.
(Well, actually I made two---but the first one was using old t-shirts, and it was a prototype.)
It came out very well. And it gave me such an intense satisfaction.
I haven't gotten that proud feeling of "Ahhh, I made this!" in awhile.
It's why I do what I do.
The photos are kinda grainy, which bums me out.
Also, I haven't shaven in a long time.
I want to, but eh...
There are a couple of new designs on their way, friends.
I'm really excited about them.
I feel like they're a departure from things I've been doing.
But who knows...
I might just be saying that because they're new.
Have you noticed how my glasses are crooked?
