I was interviewed twice today: one was filmed---gosh, I've been all stopped up lately, so I'm probably gonna sound all nasal---and the other was for some German newspaper (the German equivalent of the NY Times, I think).
Actually it wasn't just me---my pal Chanel (aka owner of the awesome shop Junk Prints) was interviewed, too, but separately.
And then the former president (I THINK that was his position---it was either that or CEO or owner or something) of BMG music stopped by the studio space. I'm not really sure why, but I think because Matt Stinchcomb, head of Etsy's marketing team, knows him. (Matt used to be in that band the French Kicks. I never listened to them, but other people I know did.)
I didn't meet that BMG guy, though. I was knitting.
Besides, I'm sure he and Rob had certain things to discuss.
Who knows.
It's all so random.
Today's been weird.
I think it's because I've been in the studio all day long.
But this is going to be my life from now on.
If I want Cubist Literature to work---if I want to work for MYSELF and not some job I hate---then it's going to take some long hours, some sacrifices, some serious dedication, some babies, some beer (I hope!), some felt, some recycled/vintage/thriftstore clothes, some...
I'll stop.
But I've been busy all day long.
I went home for about an hour and a half so that I can eat some Chef Boyardee and do a crossword puzzle.
I fuckin' love crossword puzzles, even if I can't ever finish them.
I REALLY love doing those puzzles with a friend.
(Lillian G. (aka Lazy Susan) and I did a couple on the subways when she was here. We finished them both. Holler.)
Okay, here's a photo list of the things I made today:
And I'd already listed this cuff in the shop, but I had more of the yarn left over, so I decided to knit a couple more.
I REALLY love that yarn so much. It's handspun, but I'm not sure by whom.
I unraveled the yarn from a hat that I got---not for me to wear, but the hat was just donated/given to me because the owner didn't want it anymore. I guess.
I'm really excited about these next six months.
I hope that I have what it takes to run some sort of legit/substantial/consistent business.
I'm really nervous about the sacrifices, though, of course.
I'm not looking forward to $1/day budgets for food.
I'm getting the impression that I'll need a partner.
So, I think I'm currently looking for one. I'd prefer another guy to work with. And who's good at sewing and knitting and being awesome and original.
I'm just thinking out loud.
I'll stop RIIIIIIGHT now.
Well, Windy, my younger sister, left yesterday. And I wasn't expecting this, but I got so sad after I said goodbye that I started crying as I was walking in the airport. I was so homesick the rest of the day that I had to go to the bathroom a couple times to bury my face in my towel and cry like a baby.
But I guess it's just one of those things.
I feel a lot better today.
Here are some photos of me being an NYC tourist with my sister:
(At the top of the Empire State Building.)
(Grand Central.)
That scarf that she's wearing is a belated Christmas gift I finished after she got here. I made her model it for me the other day:
It's really long---over 70".
And it's a foot wide.
She told me she wanted it this one time we were waiting at the Coach store. This lady walked in with a similar scarf, and Windy said, "That's the scarf I want. So, you better get on it.'
I'm not good with deadlines.
I'm also worse when I have no deadlines.
So, yeah.
That's that.
Here are a few other random photos of some shirts I've sewn since yesterday. And other stuff.
Oh, and here's this photo of me when I had this REALLY bad hangover.
(I couldn't stay in bed all day long like I wanted to, though. I had to keep on truckin' and take Windy shopping...)
I got sorta belligerent the night before...
K sorry for all the photos, but I missed you, friends!

So, remember that snow from yesterday?
Well, it all melted.
And everything's wet. And it's been raining all day long.
And there are a couple leaks in the ceiling.
Gah.
I made some mitts this morning, but they were too small for me to model in photos.
So, I had Desira wear them for me.
(This is the first time anyone else has modeled in my Etsy shop.)
Therefore, I decided to list some 1" buttons I'd originally made for fun.
There is no fun allowed when you're broke.
This is a rule God made.
This morning at 12:48AM my friend Anda gave birth to a baby girl, Sidonie June. I'm happy for Anda and her husband Pete. =)
Can't wait to see the baby either!
This also means I must finish the baby sweater that I've been meaning to finish:
In other news, I modeled a shirt for Desira Pesta, my new roommate:
It's pretty cool. I'm a fan.
It's big on me, though.
Oh JEEZ it's cold outside.
I've repeated this story a lot, BUT... yesterday when I was working on a shirt, I looked out the window cuz the wind was getting really bad. When I looked out, I saw all these little things flying around in the wind. I thought it was trash or confetti.
But it turned out to be snow.
I now have a greater appreciation for the need of mittens.
I still like making fingerless mitts, though.
P.S.
Kate Black says she likes me because I'm so intimidating.
In a postmodern way.
I am a male.
And I know how to sew and knit and make my own yarn and screenprint and take pictures and draw (bad) pictures and read and play guitar and play keyboard and make short "films" (usually video blogs, but still) and make 1" buttons and do etc.
Some of those activities are typically done by women.
I sell my goods on Etsy.com.
And people who sell on that site are typically women.
So, in some ways, I'm a rarity.
But there's this tendency on the Etsy forums to "spot" and giggle and swoon over "crafty" (I hate that word) boys.
And it's really annoying.
There's talk among some of my fellow Etsians to make a MEN OF ETSY calendar...
I passed on the idea.
I don't see the appeal.
And I am certainly not interested in being some sort of novelty.
Gosh.
I see little difference between making a MEN OF ETSY calendar and a BLACKS OF ETSY calendar.
(Oooh, ahh! A real BLACK person...)
(I mean that in the least offensive way...)
(Besides, I'm biracial: half caucasian (dad), half Hispanic (mom).)
You know? Jeez.
In other news, I made these two pairs of fingerless mitts:
They're a big larger than I would've liked them to turn out.
BUT they'll fit a guy with large hands very nicely!
Late night text message:
"Um is it awkward we're in the same class?"
My early morning response:
"Only if we let it be---let's just be friends then mk?"
I feel like I haven't spoken to you, dear blog, in awhile.
IN OTHER NEWS
I found this drum machine for only $1.50 on Saturday morning:
And I made these the other day:
I haven't really had much to say the past few days.
Sorry.
I got my Ravelry invitation the other day, though. I wish the site had a faster pace. I guess everyone's busy knitting or crocheting.
Wanna see some yarn I made in the past couple days?
Sure you do.
I made some knitting tutorial videos for my friend Michael.
Table of contents:
Video 1: How to make a slipknot
Video 2: How to cast on
Video 3: How to make a knit stitch, pt 1
Video 4: How to make a knit stitch, pt 2
Video 5: How to bind off, pt 1
Video 6: How to bind off, pt 2
I didn't explain the purl stitch, tho.
Hopefully all this makes sense.
And hopefully everything is clear or whatever.
ENJOY!
