SELF PORTRAIT THURSDAY!
8.27.09
I pretty much only did computer stuff at the studio today. I'll save all manual labor (and going to the post office) for tomorrow.
Here I'm reading things on the internet.
Listening to Ben drill.
Knitting Jessica G.'s hood.
Dragging.
The cable pattern really isn't something I can look away from and not pay attention to.
I'm realizing that the hard way.
All is going well, though.
First of all, look how beautiful/awesome my sister looks in the oversize cowl top I made her:
I think it looks great in black. I like it more than the white.
Next, check out some these new skeins of yarn I made.
I'm really into them.
Just watched "Shock Treatment", the sequel/follow-up to Rocky Horror.
It was pretty strange, even more so than RHPS, I think. A little hard to follow, but it might probably grow on me.
I already have the opening theme song stuck ("Denton, USA") in my head:
At the end of the clip, you see Brad and Janet (played by different actors, of course) sitting in the audience.
I kinda like the woman who plays Janet, but her singing voice is a bit confusing because it's deeper than I expected.
You should watch the movie.
Soon.
Jessica,
Here are some rough sketches/ideas for your hooded ponchette/capelet.
This was what I originally wanted to do, but I couldn't figure out how to make it work.
(Believe me, I sat at my computer and notebook for at least an hour trying to figure out how I would make it---and which cables I use use. And where they should go.)
This is what I'm going ahead with---unless you tell me you hate it.
I think it'll look really boss, even though the cable pattern is more symmetrical than I originally wanted to go with.
This is the cable pattern that will run up the front center:
I think it will look v. nice in black.
Let me know what you think!

I feel like I haven't blogged in awhile, but it's only been three or four days. It was the weekend.
I've been busy this weekend. I worked a lot at the studio, even though I never work on Saturdays and Sundays.
Yesterday was Ben's birthday.
Yes, we went to the studio to work on his birthday. But only because he wanted to finish making a pair of shorts for himself. (I spun some v. nice skeins of yarn this weekend.)
Went to breakfast. Egg and cheddar paninis at Tiny Cup in Bed-Stuy = awesome.
Chilled out.
Napped.
I made us hamburgers and yucca fries for dinner.
The first time I made yucca fries I made them just right.
The second time I made them they were overcooked.
The third time (last night) they were undercooked.
I really need to get it together.
Also, this weekend I've been watching a lot old TLC videos because TLC is awesome.
Their clothes in the videos from their first album are insane.
(Did you see that part where Chilli is using that HUGE cell phone? My phone is so small. It could be the penis of that big phone.)
I'm diggin' this son
Tonight I unveiled two new designs.
You saw the prototype of one of them last week: the oversize cowl top.
I've made it for men and women:
These days I'm all about tank tops and sleeveless tees.
Okay, the second design:
It's called "What Might Have Been Or Will Be":
Inspired heavily by: spirals, text, butterflies, pains, depths of field, collaborations, and Karen Carpenter.
These designs are not for sale on Etsy right now.
However, they ARE for sale in my new Supermarket shop.
You know, to kick things off and all...
SELF PORTRAIT THURSDAY!
6.20.09
Couldn't sleep last night.
Not for bad reasons. Just couldn't.
And couldn't wait until morning.
So, I got up at 6AM.
And didn't look back once.
Sorta bummed today because I have to go into Manhattan. It's been about a month, I believe, since I was last there.
If you haven't noticed or picked up by now, I try to stay in Brooklyn.
Brooklyn is so much nicer.
It's not jam packed with people. You can take a stroll on the sidewalk. It's not snooty. And you don't feel like you're walking in some advertisement.
BUT there are some supplies I have to get.
And I have to meet with the photographer to get my photos.
I have some great news concerning Ben J. and his line, TAKE OFF YOUR CLOTHES.
His work is going to be carried at Oak, a very nice designer store (leaning toward avant-garde/experimental design) here in NYC. There are several things I currently want to own from Oak.
And it'll be nice to see Ben's work where it belongs.
Not TOO much to report today.
Or yesterday.
Key points:
1. Working on a new design today. Will probably expose the screen this afternoon and print some prototypes.
Clue: box play---the new sexual act (and fetish) of getting in a cardboard box, cutting out appropriate holes, and then pounding out the veal.
2. Ben and Jessica Goldfond (of the v. popular blog, The Shiny Squirrel), who just started doing his PR, have a v. important meeting today with a well-known store here in NYC. That's all I'm going to say. (I'm also going to say that I'm very excited about this!)
3. Well, I guess there is no #3.
Here's a shot of Ben in the studio the other day, making a shredded stripes shirt:
And here is a photo of this big rat that's on Myrtle Ave., near my apartment in Bed-Stuy:
But I think I like it.
I watched "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" twice this weekend: once for old time's sake (and because Ben had NEVER seen it) and the other time because I noticed that the DVD had the UK version of the movie. The UK version has an extra song at the end plus it plays "Science Fiction Double Feature" again at the end during the credits.
This is the extra song from RHPS. It's sung as Brad and Janet and Dr. Scott are crawling on the ground after the castle takes off to Transylvania. It's called "Superheroes", and I think it might be my favorite song in the movie.
It's so depressing and catchy.
(The YouTube clip doesn't have the footage from the movie for some reason... It's just clips from something else. It has the song, though, and that's what is important.)
This is another song that isn't in any versions.
It's called "Once In Awhile".
Brad sings it after sleeping with Frank N. Furter.
I think I've heard the stage version of that song before---and preferred it.
Okay, gotta run.
Photoshoot today! Let's hope it goes well. =)

P.S.
It's in the 90s today.
And there's no a/c, of course.
TORTURE.
